Not all catheters are the same
During catheterization, the catheter coating is exposed to urine and the urinary tract, where osmolality can vary substantially (11, 12, 13, 14). If the surrounding environment has a higher osmolality than the catheter coating, water may be drawn away from the surface, potentially reducing lubrication (15, 16).
The Urotonic™ Surface Technology has an osmolality higher than or similar to the lower urinary tract, which helps maintain coating hydration, and is associated with reduced friction (17) and less sticking during catheter insertion (18) and withdrawal (16, 18, 19, 20).
